    Where is Thermostat.

    Hello all,

I am new to the Astra I have a 1.6 club petrol, and it is loosing water, not sure to where it is going, so I wanted to see if the thermostat has a leak.
I have looked at the dipstick and it is not showing signs of water in the oil, it has done 56k.
The heater is producing heat, but I am having bother with the demist.
I am at a loss as I cant see any leaks at all.

if this is is the wrong post I am sorry, will get used to site soon.

    Thanks for advance.

    Derek

stat location depends on if its 8v or 16v

8v engine has VAUXHALL along the top of the rocker cover

16v has ECOTEC across the top of the plastic engine cover

8v (bad news) has the stat positioned on the side of the block but needs the timing belt to come off to remove it

16v model has it on the bottom left of the head
Radiator >> top hose >> thermostat >> head

problems with demist! loosing water! are your carpets in the front footwells wet? sounds like it could be the heater matrix is leaking. the water has to be going somewhere, put cardboard underneath overnight and see if there is signs...

    Hi
Thanks for info, no the carpets are not wet,, but I do smell radiator water from time to time, via the blower, I also have seen a line of dried 'running' water now under the airbox, so was wondering what is under their.
I am loosing a fair bit of water, so if it was the heat exchange, the carpets would be wet I think.

    Regards to all.
