    confusing ecu

i didnt think anything of this when i had my ecu flashed to clear some fault codes a few months ago

my engine is a z18xe and when it was flashed the menu on the machine told me my engine code was z16xe. does this mean that my car is running a z16xe ecu or is it normal for these machines to come up with different codes? it would explain why my car seems a little slower compared to other 1.8's or it could be the hole in my exhaust that is causing it to be slower.

i am very confused by the engine code information though so if anyone can shed any light i would be very grateful. i wouldnt be very happy if my car is running a 1.6 ecu!

    regards ben

Exhaust hole will affect things more than you think, and the Z18XE has different sensors etc, so I don't think the Z16XE ECU map would even run on your engine.

the ECU if original will hold the spec of the car from when it left the factory. you need to post up pics of your engine so it can be verified as to the exact unit that you have. As nry states, a Z16 ECU will not run a Z18 engine, so something is not right

Pics would help out, easy enough to spot the difference between the Z16 and Z18XE engines.

if there is no chance that a z16 ecu will run in a z18 im not really that bothered as to why it came up as z16xe. must have just been the machine.

oh yeh it did use to be really quick but recently has slowed down which i think is the hole in the exhaust. probably dropped anything from 1/2 to 1 second off of the 0-60 time
