Chances of taking an item back without the receipt (HMV to be specific)?

The girlfriend is into Poirot. She mentioned she wanted the complete box set to me ages ago so i got it for her Xmas. She never mentioned it to her folks.

She went home for Xmas (she's from Scotland) & guess what - yeah, they went & bought her it also.

    Great.

Now usually one so organised, i can't find the damn receipt. Not only that, but i usually pay for things like this by debit card & guess what - yes, no record of it on my online banking, which means i must've paid by cash.

The box set is still in its cellophane wrapping, so it's clearly been unopened/unused.

I'm aware that at best i will get vouchers, which doesn't bother me as i've got something in mind for a replacement.

I know a lot of this will be happening all over the country at this time of the year. Thing is, what are my chances of getting anything, or am i likely to get turned away even though it's obviously unopened?

EDIT: I can't wrap for shizzle, so i got the mother to wrap it for me Anyway, we both ended up forgetting to take off the receipt. It doesn't say HMV on it, but it does have the original price, the sale price & the barcode, if this makes a difference to the case.

No chance I would have thought.

Best bet is to sell it on the bay or sell it to a friend.

Its what I did with a groilla pod last year.

if you brought it on a debit/credit card surely a statement would be just as good?

I guess i'll have to find out.

Gutted as these aren't shifting on eBay & i know nobody else into Poirot. She could've told her folks not to get it, but meh, what do you do.

I don't know if the barcode will be recognized as a hmv barcode or what. As i say, the label has everything on it (price & barcode) except the name "hmv"

It's still wrapped in its cellophane wrapper, so it still looks like it did when it came off the shelf.

Gutted. I'll try them in the morning & hope that they're open & then hope that they at least give me vouchers.

I hope the fact that i want to replace it there & then with a different box set will help my case of a 'returns acceptance'

Should work in your favour, as I am assuming you mean its a barcode on a sticker put on by the shop, and not the proper barcode on the box.
They will hopefully recgonise the sticker as being their own and do you a swap
