Unhappy astra 1.7 cdti design 2006 engine light on!

had the engine electric light on today showing the car with spanner thro it.
also i had notice a noise from engine compartment like a whistle sound (distant police siren ) when i rev over 5,000 revs aprox?
when i got home and turned engine off then on again the light has stayed off so far.
also tried the pedal test for codes which there wasn't any show up.
so at present there is now a siren sound but when you rev it more it seems to go.
got rid of my peug 307 for being bad now im not so sure with the vauxhall's any advice much welcome plse....
ps on a good note the car seems to still drive ok with no loss of power!
but the police siren noise is still there?

Not being funny, but why are you revving a 1.7 diesel to 5000rpm? Doesn't it redline somewhere around there?

Could be the turbo you can hear maybe, they make a whining type noise when spinning up fast?

now found that the light with car/ spanner seems to only come on when i take the car around the 70mph mark aprox then stays on untill engine is stopped then restarted then light off. it also then goes into limp mode when light is on.

you should rev the engine over 3k revs at least once a week, otherwise you risk getting a p0234 fault code, and that may cost you over £600 as the turbo is not a cheap item, this is a common problem with cars with variable vane turbos

I keep getting p0234 when the car is rev'd to around 4400rpm is this a possible sign of the turbo been on its way out???
