    Rear disc conversion: handbrake cable part no.?

    I asked in my local dealer today r.e. a handbrake cable for a MK4 with rear discs, as I now have all the parts bar the cable for a rear disc conversion, however there were a few options listed, different lengths and sections etc.

    As mine is a MK4 3dr hatch I assume I only need the shortest length rear y-section cable? As it isn't the specific part for my car they can't offer a refund if the part is wrong, so I wanted to check here first. They were also about £50+VAT, wasn't expecting it to be that much!?

    Get one from Halfords mate

    They're like £35 and if you get them on trade they're much cheaper, think it was something like £26-£28 or something like that

    Got them on mine

    Started looking at 3rd party cables last night but didn't get too far, will have a check at Halfords, though I might have to tap-up a local member for Trade Card pricing

    Anyone know this at all yet? I'm guessing the front section of the cable is standard on all MK4's, with just the 'rear' part being different, and even then a different length for the 3dr and 5dr models?

    theres 3 different versions listed im afraid - all dependent on chassis number etc

    so may have to just guess!!!

    im thinkin they may actually depend on bosch/lucas so cant say for sure

    heres what EPC states for disc models

    CABLE, ASSY., HANDBRAKE1590MM LONG - PN 24425108

    Upto Engine numbers

    22006460->
    25003001->
    16999999->
    28006254->
    1B999999->

    CABLE, ASSY., HANDBRAKE1590MM LONG - PN 24465148

    From Engine numbers To Numbers
    22006461-----> 32999999
    25003002-----> 35999999
    26000001-----> 36999999
    28006255-----> 38999999
    2B000001-----> 3B999999

    CABLE, ASSY., HANDBRAKE1596MM LONG - PN 13153654

    From numbers
    42000001->
    45000001->
    46000001->
    48000001->
    4B000001->
    So essentially the first 2 are the same size and the 3rd is a tiny bit longer

    in essence no idea what this means!!!!!!!!

    Well just means that one has more room for adjustment than the other 2 surely?

    Chris mate, the one you need for those discs is the 1590mm

    Crikey, the guy on the parts desk wasn't sure himself, so that makes it all, err, mudlike! From a quick Google, AOC turns up with a post from Jam:

    http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh...ad.php?t=98769

    Handbrake Cables
    Front cable - all models 9127540
    Centre cable - all models with drum brakes 24436451
    Centre cable - all models with disc brakes to 22006460/25003001/16999999/28006254/IB999999 24425108
    Rear cable - all models with drum brakes

    So I 'think' that means I should be ordering 24425108? I have Bosch rear calipers (freshly rebuilt etc 6000 miles ago )....
