6x9's in a Van--- Where can I put them?

I just got round to ripping out all the audio equipment left in my car by the previous owner. Had a sub, amp, and a couple of pairs of 6x9's in boxes. It was taking up half the load space, and really I need the whole load space so don't really want to have any gear in there if I can help it. I did look at a pair of 6x9 MDF boxes and having them fixed to the sides up by the bulkhead, but I think even these might get in the way.

However, I had a look behind the seats today ,and I noticed there are small cavaties behind each seat. What I was thinking, if it's possible, is to cut out a piece of MDF to cover these cavaties up, mounting a 6x9 speaker in each. I'd probably run them off a small amp under the passenger seat, but I just wanted to know if this was a feasable location for having them. I don't know if they'd sound horrible for being there, but it seems like they'd be right out of the way there.

If not, any other suggestions are welcome!

    Cheers!

The problem with mounting 6 x 9's down there is that they are a full range speaker and aren't going to sound very good. A better idea would be to replace the front speakers and the make a mdf box behind the seat for a small sub with a amp behind the other seat

I had thought of that. I made a couple of boxes for 6x9's and put them behind the seats in my old escort van, and TBH they may as well not have been there, didn't do a huge amount.

The other option, as you mention, is to get some decent 6.5" component speakers with seperate tweeters to uprate the standard fronts. Would there be any benefit to running these off an amp if I did this or would they be fine off the head unit?

Gooner yeah if you could find the time to get some pics up that'd be great.

I don't really want crazy levels of volume, I just want some decent quality sound, which i've found hard to get off just front speakers in the past.

Ide go with Autosparks on this. Am i right in saying its better to have the sound stage in front rather than behind like it would be seeing the band live?. Good set of components running of an amp and a 10" sub behind the seats

It all depends how far you want to go tbh, you may find that a decent set of components running off the headunits with a amp + sub enough

Autosparks speaks the truth in this.
Always better to have your main sound source coming from the front.
