Abs or not on my vehicle?

I have a Vauxhall Astra 2001 SXi model.

There are no ABS lights on the dash that come up, but when changing my disks and pads a few weeks ago there was a loose wire with a plug on the end hanging down from the Wheel Bearing.

Is this part just there incase you do choose the ABS option or has the wrong part been fitted to it before I bought it?

    Cheers

Hey mate, normally they do fit the wiring for certain 'features' but not all the components will be present. A classic example would be the MK5 CDTI, most of these have the wiring etc for cruise control, but the stalk and programming is missing. I'm not sure how well this relates to the MK4 though, so may be someone else can clarify

Going by your garage you have a 51 plate 4 stud Mk4.. in which case chances are that you don't have ABS, unless it was fitted as an option at the factory (quite rare).

Don't worry about the extra connector, as it's not needed

Brilliant! Cheers lads. Yeah its the 4 stud

I need a new Steering Knuckle due to the original owner cross threading the threads meaning my caliper carrier is only being held on by 1 bolt. Just thought id check incase I replace the wheel bearing too!

Nah not worth bothering with it. Its my first car, its gonna do me a bloody good turn and then ill move onto something which is bound to have ABS. Just had to make sure it didnt have it for def before ordering a wheel bearing with ABS connection.

ABS only lets you steer whilst braking.. nothing more nothingn less.

To many seem to think it's this magic voodoo device that stops a car quicker, and can get you out of trouble when driving beyond the laws to physics.. it won't.

just incase a car pulls out and a lock the wheels, which happened alot when i had the 1.0 VW lupo but it has 145/65r13 budget tyres and no weight on the front end. The zafira done it from time to time but the astra on 18's stops alright. A bit of a just incase if it was an easy mod.

Is it any easier when doing a 5-stud conversion?
