Sounds like its been in an accident. Check the hand book because im sure if its been in a crash then the hazards come on when starting in!!

If it has been repaired officially then I'd be taking it back to the repairer/insurance company.

You may be happy to drive with no airbags, but if you come to sell the car, and the new owner crashes and dies, on your conscience be it.

The dash on the MK5 is pretty much soldered in SMD's I believe, so taking one out may not be an easy job at a guess.

I fixed one of these last week.

Clearing the airbag deployment record sorts out the hazard lights, you will still have the airbag light in the dash if you have pre-tensioner issues, you could get some of a car being broken and swap them over.

Desoldering the SMD isn't too difficult, although you would be better off resolving the airbag/pretensioner issue.

You need to get it on a diagnostic, just in case it is just the deployment record which is causing the warning light.
