    1300T project

Hello every, i'm new to this site and thought i would say hello and introduce my little MK1 Astra 1300 turbo project, i did put it in the projects part but i know not every one looks in there as often as in here.

The engine (now 25y.o.) started off as a normal 1.3 twin port carb 75hp engine, the head gasket went cos the thermostat collapsed and stayed shut and seeing as the power was a bit poor (my other mk1 is a 2.0 130 8v) i thought why the hell not give it injection and turbo it

so here is the spec to date:

    Block:
standard 50k 13s block and pistons
sump modded to return oil from turbo,
T piece fitted between oil pressure switch and block to supply oil to turbo
Water system T'ed to supply turbo with water
crank sensor timing wheel from mk3 1.6mpi and sensor mounted using the one hole that's in the same place as the mk3 with plenty of locktite

    Head
standard 1.6 multi point injection head from an astra mk3 1996 C16SE cesaro
    single standard head gasket
    standard head bolts
big breather pipe that would go the the cam cover used for 5th injector
cam cover big breather pipe fitted with a filter
other small air pipes on engine and head blocked off as not required
Standard Fuel Pressure Regulator (for the moment)
mainfold from a 1.4 (single port exit type) with lambda sensor
adapter pipe to mount turbo to manifold

    Turbo
    IHI turbo from 1.7TD astra/cav
non adjustable waist gate removed (as set to 1bar boost) and an adjustable one fitted and set to 4PSI
adjustable boost controller fitted (bleed type)
Bailey imitation dump valve (ebay sucks always read the small print)
    oil and water cooled
front mount 750x200x60mm front mount intercooler hidden behind valence,
2" pipe work with Roose Motorsport hoses in red to match car

    Other Info
    Combination of 1.6 head on a 1.3 bottom end = 7:1 compression
boost gauge (electronic) with built in narrowband air/fuel gauge
mechanical boost gauge as don't trust the electric one plus its a bit slow
modded corsa fan to fit mk1 radiator as its thinner than the mk1 fan
MK3 estate injection fuel tank, with 3 bar pump fitted
170cc 5th injector controlled by on/off swith, using an ignition module for the pulse signal
    Boost currently set at 8-10PSI
Combination of 1.6 138cc injectors with the 170cc 5th injector gives a minimum 180cc (170cc/4 cylinders + 138cc per cylinder) when on boost so not much chance of running lean as a 1.3 only needs about 110cc for N/A
quarter mile test using sat nav showed about 95mph

    Left to do
Rising Rate fuel pressure regulator to fit once i make the fuel rail adapter
fit a wideband AFR gauge and sensor
2bar map sensor (saab one) same but cheeper
using a single point injector ecu piggybacked to the normal ecu sensors to control the 5th injector better (please done start with the "use a standalone ecu") its my car and i do things my way right or wrong
Rolling Road for setting up fuel pressure and 5th injector level

here's a few pics of the build from when i started it, some bits are slightly different now

its geat how vaux kept things the same all the way back from the 80's - 2k with the small blocks, makes trying things very simple.

forgot to put that i'm using the 1.3s cam, thats just shows how vaux kept things the same as it fits strait in but did cause a headache with the dizzy, dizzy wanted the pin type hole to grip and the cam has a slot, filed the pin flat on the sides to make it fit and the dizzy was off a 1.6 big block too

Brett, its seems alot quicker than the SEH in the hatchback, it doesn't rev as high, the standard ecu is set to summat daft like 6500 but it waists no time getting threre, what engine are you converting?

fosters can gets a lot of laughs at meets

been out tonight in the wet and the bloomin thing spins it head off, even changing into 4th at 80mph it'll spin again (no lsd yet lol)

and all very sleeper looking in an estate lowered 80mm that still says 1300s on the back

I got a SEH in my corsa, but picking up my old c20ne from my old mk2 astra cabby in couple of weeks or so and will be using that for the turbo conversion as the compression on the ne is suited for a turbo conversion

The base engine brings back memories of my Nova 1.3SR Would have been a fun conversion to do on that!
