Astra possibly on it last legs ?

Ive git a 1.4 16 R reg astra and just lately its got sluggish with no pull or anything in it ?

Its done 124k ive just changed the oil and filer as it was time for remewal?

just lately it dont pull anymore (thu the gears) i think the gearbox is on the way out aswell and it someitmes jumps out of 2nd when i go to change a gear, theres a strange ticking noise comeing from the aux/cambelt area which i cant find the problem, when i go to rev it almost stalls itself and when i come to stop and it doestn idles properly, its more towards 500 this 1000 when idleing ?

ive also just noticed a hairline crack in the head?

so would it just be a case of changeing the gearbox oil and cleaning out the injectors ?

or would it be worth gettin a new car and stripping this one ???

thanks anymore info ask me ?

If there is a hairline crack in the head then I'd be a bit concerned! Mileage isn't high in itself but without the head being checked first, I'd not be spending any other money.

Sorry, but if youve seen a hairline crack, its not a hair line one,its a pretty huge one. Iv done a PCN course on crack testing. If you can see a crack then thats the problem,so you need to get that sorted, and see if that changes things.

yeah. Well hairline, by definition, is tiny and you cant really see them by eye unless very lucky. When the crack is blatantly obvious it means its quite wide in 'crack terms' lol .

sounds like you have no compression cuz of the cracked head. take it to a garage for a compression test and they can advise you. you can pick up a new head for a couple of hundred but it depends wether you want to fix it or buy a new one
