Does anyone know if the banks (esp. Abbey) still do this service?
I know barclays dont do it any more - I think the reason the banks stopped it is because they are a lot faster these days anyhow. Most my cheques show on the account within a couple of days (if not the same bank) and I can usually draw on them as well.
probably doesnt help though...
dont see the point in cheques now, seeing as you can transfer money instantly from account to account now...also you've got bankers drafts
Abbey have extended their clearance from 3 to 4 days, which means when I bank a cheque on Tuesday 1st December, its not going to be cleared funds until Monday 7th December. Had they left it as it was, I could withdraw it on the Friday. Was just hoping I could get the funds sooner for the xmas do weekend. hey ho.
Steve, my ex insists on cheques, I have tried many times to get him to change it to a standing order, or do it online, but he wont. Suppose its the only thing he has control of anymore.
Cheques will not disappear any time soon, I use them every week and send around 15 a month.
Sami you could use one of thes fast cheque places but they will charge 10% or more. I would speak to your bank. If its a cheque you have from a regular source they may well let you draw on it earlier or extend your overdraft so you have funds available at the time you want.
Barclays seem to clear part of the cheques value the same day and 'clear' the rest within 4 days.
i dont think they will, be a standard 3 days wont it?
