    Towing using a pole.....

    Hi all,

I'm set to tow a broken down Renault megan Secnic with my 1.8 astra mk4 on Saturday.

I want to buy a towing pole as its about 40 miles (all on 30mph roads).

My question is, cana towing pole be attached to the rear loop under the rear of my astra as it is not the standard 'towing' eye?

The product I'm looking at is:

    Thanks,

    Matt

I know that with the lower range models the towing eye is almost visable, but its more of a loop than an eye.

If the height of the Senics towing eye is too high then your bumper could obstruct the pole.

Personally i would use a rope and get an experienced driver in the senic.

Good price on the towing pole however, great find!

I was worried about the bumper issue too.

I think I'm going to get my mate with a Mini One to tow me in the megan. May well work a bit better!

its actually illegal to use anything but a pole now, ive never had a problem using a pole with any car, even my old mk4, however with the sri-t splitter theres no chance :P

well actually i was told by a traffic cop i chat to every now and then that i could go pick a car up from the impound using a tow rope and a fully legal car as the vehicle towing the car covers the one being towed like a trailer or caravan etc

Are you sure ? It is definatly illegal to tow on a motorway with anything other than a pole now , BUT you can still use a rope or strap on any other roads
