    EML on at high speed

Hi all, first post, anyway i have a mk3 1.4 16v ecotec engine and the engine light came on the other day when doing about 80 (on a runway) for about 5 minutes, I then slowed down to 70 whils looking for somewhere to pullover and the engine light went out again. I thought i would carry on and it has been fine since this morning when i did the same speed (about 80 on a runway), it came on again and then went out when i returned to 70.

I hear you can do the pedal test which is the equivilent to a diagnostic check, i havnt had time yet but just wondered if anybody has experienced this before or has any ideas to the problem?

    Thanks in advance

Was it the EML or the emissions light?

Pedal test should help, otherwise we're suggesting things for the sake of it!

Won't work on a pre 2000 engine buddy didnt come with an obd2 compliant port, was an older one, however all is not lost, you can do a paper clip test which is a bit more figety but its doable

Pretty sure it was the engine check light, havnt even noticed if i have an emissions light???

I'm familiar with the paper clip type test so will give it a go when i get the chance.

The car still drives fine (touch wood), done a bit of searching, EGR maybe??

it is the EGR causing the light to come on as when you are at high speed it should be opening and is not, then when you slow down it is the correct shut position hence the light going off
