    Astra 1.4 low mpg?

I brought a 1998 3 door 1.4 mk4 astra about 2 months ago and just wondered roughly what sort of milage I should expect. I do alot of miles for work and in gettin about 280mile for a tank which is about £45

I do a 30 mile trip daily which is at about 60Mph on country roads all way then probs 10 mile town drivin a day.

I haven't yet serviced the car, just put 4 new Tyres on it.

Any sugestions? Many thanks in advance

I would say service it to see if that makes any changes to the consumption.

I have got a 1.4 MK5, I know its alot newer than yours, but I am getting about 350 minimum from a full tank of fuel and its recently been serviced.

Am no expert, but mine had Oil + filter, air filter, pollen filter & sparks. Not sure what else it had done.

Getting about 50 miles more per tank now.

my coupe usually does 350 - 400 miles per tank (its a 1.. definately give it a good service. If you're not sure what would need doing in a comprehensive service then i'm sure someone (who knows a damn sight more than me)will be along in a moment to tell you

The car has also just touched 115k, I am deffo gonna service it next week if someone with more experiance in this field could just guide me on best things to change. That would be great. Car runs lovly other than the this. Also the manifold isn't the original part because for some reason there was 2 holes for oxygen sensor so iv had to blank one off and vauxhall said they've not seen that manifold before could this be anything to do with it?

well if its all country roads you will be driving twisty roads?? so the mpg wont b great...

but i used to get 400miles 2 a 2000 1.6sxi and that had 95kmiles on it... i would just say might be down to where and how you drive it (and im not saying your drive fast just on country raods its hard 2 keep it at 60 and not have 2 brake and so on

the times i drive there is nothing on the road so not really stoppin n startin etc and the country roads are pretty wide and not bad for corners i know i should still be gettin plenty more milage out of it though so will give it a service and keep it you updated.

    thanks again

You should be getting way more than that! My old 1.4 hatch did at least 350 - 400 to a tank. My coupe turbo is getting more than 280 (Just).

Definately needs a service. Oil and oil filter, air filter and spark plugs would probably suffice, althought I'd do the pollen filter and fuel filter as well.
