Need help! Car wont run right

This is the missus Mk3 1.4 1997 8v I got a problem with. Shes using mine until I get it fixed so I have to take motorbike to work in this weather until it done. :-(

Anyway, starts and ticks over fine. When you put your foot down it makes a loud sucking noise and the revs start to pick up very slowly. It is like this in neutral so it is impossible to do anything under load. It takes over 5 seconds to get to 3000rpm.

I changed the plugs and leads, just in case, but its still the same. Anyone got any ideas what it might be or any suggestions.

    Cheers everyone, Bri

check the MAP sensor, best done with a vacuum gauge under load. failing that check over the O2 sensor for fuel fault issues

Changed MAP sensor for a new one which didn't sort out the problem. Just ordered a new Oxygen sensor. I will let you know if this has fixed it.

MMMMMMMMMMM sounds like the CAT or exhaust is blocked.

If I was you i would take the exhaust of the manifold before the CAT. Then try the car then. If it works ok like that reconnect just the CAT and try that. If it still works fine one of boxes are clogged but if it wont rev with just the cat on your CAT will have collapsed

a few years ago now i had a corsa with said engine, same problem, ended up being a big hole before the centre silencer knowing vauxhall though yours is probably a completetly different problem lol just give it a quick look under neath and see if there is any sooty deposits aroud the exhaust pipe, because thats where the hole would be
