    Mk4 Astra SXi Sticky Gearbox

I've got an 02 Astra SXi and I feel the gearbox is a bit notchy/sticky sometimes and I was wondering if that is normal?

For example the throw from 1st to 2nd is a bit stiff sometimes and the other way like when I am just about to stop in slow moving traffic. I can't change to 1st unless I actually stop, select it then set off again.

Am I just being ultra critical?

yeah, i got the same "problem" in my 01 Coupe.

though it only seems to be when the engine is cold, it softens up when the engine gets warmer

I recall this is by design to stop you selecting first at too high an rpm...my old Nova was the same and my MK4 Z16xe is the same too. Selecting first gear at anything other than 'almost stopped' is pretty impossible.

It kind of sucks, since we have a steep 180 degree turn here which i need to use 1st gear. I have to make almost a complete stop before shifting into 1st and then make the turn..

That's fair enough but when you have the clutch in the revs are at idle. Maybe there is an issue with the driveshaft moving too fast or something? Annoying when 2nd is too low a gear to move off smoothly.
