ok, I've had the coupe 5 weeks now.....

.... as some of you may know, this is my first vaux as im usually into my italian cars. I've had the coupe 5 weeks now and this is whats gone wrong so far......

    • petrol light came on and has never gone off, regardless of how much petrol the car has in it. Fuel gauge works properly however.
    • Rev counter is a funky little thing, likes to dance all over the dial. Its always doing one of three things; dancing all over the dials, sitting at 0 RPM or (very occasionally) reading correctly
    • temp gauge either takes no reading or a correct reading, depending upon what mood its in.
    • when i first turn the car over, the revs (actual revs, not just the counter) fluctuate between about 700 an 1400 RPM, when the lights are on at the same time, the dim and brighten with the revs.
    • and finally two bits of trim have fallen off....
if anyone could shed any light onto any of these problems, except sticking the trim back on, it would be much appreciated. As i said this is my first vaux so not in any way familiar with the engine (1..

your battery is shagged id say mate

faulty batteries can often cause weird n wonderful electrical issues like ur experiencing

you could even check the voltage and it may appear correct 14.4v ish when charging but still could be dying!

I say get it changed pronto - always a good idea with winter on its way anyway

    OR

    Wait for some other opinions

As most of the faults seem to be with the clocks/ instruments, have a look if they have been removed and not fitted back into the plug correctly. or maybe the clocks are just knackered.

The fact that your temp guage is faulty and the revs are fluctuating suggests that the temperature sensor may require replacement.

Sounds like a bit of bad luck mate. I've had mine nearly 2 years and only had probs with (you guessed it!) AFM.
The good thing with VX is that when something does go wrong, it doesn't cost the earth to put right.
I hope you get her sorted and that it turns out good in the end.
