Astra Mk4 Central Locking & Alarm problem

One day last week my Astra Mk4ís electronic key stopped operating the central locking and disabling the carís alarm.

I bought a new battery then tried packing it out with cardboard as advised on other threads here but still it wouldnít work.

I took the little cct board out of the key and measured across the battery - as the buttons were depressed, the voltage dropped - so current is being drawn and something must be happening.

I imagine my alarm going off as I leave for work each day at 6am will soon p!ss off the neighbours, especially when I pull a Sunday shift.

Can anyone advise me on what to try next in the fault finding department and how to disable the Alarmís horn (where is it?)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The same thing happened to my central locking as well. It's been like that for a couple of months now and I still can't figure out why it won't work.

Have you had the alarm ecu codes read to see if there is a problem and make sure that the transponder and alarm fob are transmitting?

Oh and the little chip is the transponder so you need to find it or get another one coded to your car.

I can not find the little chip, can't find a picture of what it looks like or its size.

I'm going to have to get this to a main dealer and let them sort it. Bloody technology.

If the alarm works which it has been suggested it has as it goes off ie audioable alarm the fuses should be fine,I take it the central locking works when you use the key in the door? does the LED in the key light up? Have you checked the battery clip to see if the soldered legs haven't come off the board? Have you tried re-syncing the remote to the car ie ignition on shut the door press the lock button and then the unlock button it should be done now if it just needed re-syncing. Has it ever worked? HTH emmm transponder chip can't help you their i'm affaird, just search for the thing tomorrow it will save you a lot of trouble if you find it and then just push right back in the key and apply a small bit of super glue job done

No the backup battery siren will go off until the backup battery siren runs out of juice and then that's your lot as you wont be able to arm the alarm to make it go off again as the key remote is not working as the owner would be able to turn off the alarm,if the central locking isn't working you can't arm it from the key as the alarm and central locking are one of the same thing it get's the arm feed from the CDL motor
