    stolen cars

    i called local station today to say i found what to believe was a stolen car they confirmed this after giving the number plate they said well send a truck to pick it up. Yeah right 2 weeks later still there sorry little rant over i know they have major crimes to deal with but still..

    The original owner has probably been contacted and advised. If the police recover it there usually is a cost. It is more than likely awaiting the insurance to recover it due to a pay out.

    The DVLA would need to take appropriate precuations and checks to ensure that they are not giving someones property away. Plus the fact that if it was stolen, surely it would become the insurance companies property if they have paid out on it?

    I know it can be done, but no idea how to or what critera has to be met.

    Add to the fact that DVLA would contact the current registered keeper of the car before issueing another logbook. More to the point a logbook is not proof of ownership, mearly proof of registered keeper thus theft, story has more holes than a fishing net.
