Hi all, I have been toying with the idea of wet sanding for ages and have kept putting it off as I was too worried to attack my car with sand paper, but as a few of you might know I got some horrible white splodges on the passenger door a few months back, and have finally decided to sort it out, so for you people who have always wanted a guide here’s mine.
Start with wash down get all the crap grit dirt etc off the car first
Then either tape up or remove and parts that will get in your way
Then out with the wet and dry, I used 2000 grit and had left it 24 hours beforehand to soak and fully soften
Mixed up a 5:1 mix of wash wax and warm water as my sanding lube
6-8 passed on each area and it started to look like this
When I was happy I had got all the offending marks, I then wiped the soapy lube off with a clean mf, left the light on it for 5 minutes to dry it all out and now i was getting worried.
So when all the water had gone and it was completely dry I got to work with the rotary.
Meguiars cutting pad, Meguiars #83 and #80 then buffed to a good finish, 2 coats of collinite 476 and it looked like this
Very very happy with the results and now lost my wet sanding demons lol.
All pics off a blackberry 8900 so sorry for quality but for those tempted with wet sanding but don’t want to believe me if your careful you'll be fine
