    1999 bmw m5

    Looking at changing my car early into the new year and was looking at This .

    Had anyone had any dealings with them ? Anything to look out for ? This going wrong ? General opinions Etc .....

    Havent got my heart set on one, but I do fancy a big uber saloon

    if its anything like the m3's (pretty sure the v8s run a similar setup) then the vanos unit is the biggest pain in the arse if / when it goes.

    They do not feel as quick as they are on paper, it looks like the one that was recently traded in to the car shop (swindon), good fun but the gear box was buggered, they had it going to action with a £5k reserve...............

    a lot of car for the money, but very expensive to run, and you'll need very deep pockets if anything goes wrong.

    A friend has a W reg Imola red one, very quick car, and i was surprised at how good the handling is for a big car
    Observe the masses and do the opposite

    they have nice seats
    used to love taking the kids out in the built in baby seats in the back
    nice engine
    have a drive of one see what you think
    also look at the E class AMG 55 nicer car

    bloke at work has one, alloys have been known too crack and he has had a few clutches and a new exhaust fitted since ive known him.

    The BMW E39 M5 is my absolute dream car, love them to bits.

    A reliable big saloon that will do 186mph all day long and out handle most hot hatches.

    And again on Pistonheads, its regarded as alot of people as the best saloon car ever built.

    I know as this is a Vauxhall site the Lotus Carlton may take favour but as much as I love them I would still have a M5 over it everyday.

    great cars id love one if i had the money though the new m5 would be what id have without a doubt, if oyu get one you will love it runnign costs are high but thats what oyu get for the size of engine and spec of the car all the people on the bmw forums dont seam to have that many problems though you wouldnt believe how many ex vaux owners there are on them
