    80 or 100 1.7 CDTI?

What is the difference between the 2 engines? (apart from the power)

If there is none, and the 100 can be remapped to say, 130bhp, does that then mean the 80 can be remapped to 130 as well?

So the chances are that the 80 and 100 are the same, and that they are mapped to different levels for marketing purposes (ie higher power 'sports' models and stuff).

So it would prob be worth saving the extra money on buying the 80 and remapping it anyway.

On the mk5 it is. The mk4 only had an 80PS 16v, which replaced the 74bhp Y17DT

    Sorry, I should have specified:
I am looking at MK5 CDTi's, and it seems the 80bhp versions are cheaper to buy, and insurance group 4 (100bhp is 6)
    Both are 16 valve.

So I have come to the conclusion that the engine is the same with a differnet map to cut the power down.

So in theory, if the 100bhp model can be remapped to, for example, 130bhp, that should mean the 80 model can be remappped to 130bhp.

search in the diesel part of the forum = there's loads on this - you can only get about 110 mapped out the 80bhp cdti, 130 from the 100, something to do with the ECU fitted to them....
