to be honest the easiest way to get to them is to take the centre console off, that way you can get to the bulbs and change them realy quick, 15 minute job if you know what your doing. the other way is to take the cd player out and (if you have small hands) reach around the back of the heater control that way, although doing it this way you risk dropping the bulbs etc and it will be REALLY fiddly as you will need a pair of needle plyers to unscrew the bulbs (in my experience anyway)

I managed to screw the bulb holders out with my hands, but was a fiddly job soldering the new bulbs in.

It isn't something silly like the interior light dimmer is turned down? The one by the headlight switch to the right of the steering wheel...either that or a fuse?

unfortunatley not, i have already checked the fuses as well as the dimmer. It is definatley bulbs that are away.
So where exactly is these 8 or so torx bolts that i have to remove to remove the centre consol.

there will be 1 behind the cigarette lighter, 1 behind the ash tray (open it up and pull the metal flap down) one either side of the din slot and thats it, pull from the bottom and it will come away, you may have to use a small screw driver to undo the clipson the heater dials but you shouldnt need toas it should twist round enough for you to be abletosee the bulbs
