Returning a scrapped car to the road

I've been trawling through pages and pages and have come to the conclusion you can put a 'scrapped' vehicle back on the road aslong as it doesn't have a COD (Certificate Of Destruction) against it (cars usually part of the scrappage scheme).

You have to take the vehicle to a DVLA testing station to have a VIC check, if it pass's you have the rights to apply for a new log book and then MOT at will.

Is this correct, the quicker the reply the better! Anyone been part of this?

REMEMBER THE CAR IM LOOKING AT ISNT PART OF THE GOVERNMENTS SCRAPPAGE SCHEME!!

None, it's whole. Maybe an engine problem.

so how is it "scrapped" in terms of it therefore needing a VIC check?

does it not have V5 etc?

do you mean "declared scrapped" and sold to a scrapyard (so that notification has been filled in on the V5 and sent to swansea?)

This could just be scrap yard owners opinions but every one I've asked about buying a whole car has told me outright that once they're sold to a scrapyard and the v5 sent off, then it is not allowed to be returned to the road. I've seen some real minters in scrapyards but have never been allowed to save them - your only chance is before the v5 is sent as far as I have been informed by scrapyard owners. Once there the cars can only be broken up and sold in pieces, not whole

EDIT: this INCLUDED vehicles WITH MOT and no damage - only engine faults. (eg blown head gasket)

It's in the first yard bit so it's a recent arrival, maybe I might have time? How long before they normally send the V5 off, any ideas?

I presume it's declared scrap as it's in a Vehicle Dismantlers forecourt

True, but like GeorgieBandit says if I can get the V5 before it's sent off then it won't be classed as scrapped.

    I'll update tomorrow!
