Angry £240 fine for having tights on the rear lights?!?!

Just been pulled over for a 'check' where i was informed that having black tights on my rear lights is illegal (maybe for the style police!) and that i could have been fined £30 for each light that was obstructed (4 on left and 4 on right). He let me off because of my age?!
Does anyone know if this is true or if the copper was just being a co ck. Funny thing though was as he was telling me that the light output was crap, my rear reflector was lit up like a becon from his little led safety light on his chest.

Sounds like all rozzers to be honest, if they see a modded car, they immediately target it.

Light output and reflectivity are two different things.

Why obscure your lights anyway, lights are for lighting.

    And tights are for legs!

If your going to do it do it properly then they wouldnt have pulled you. I had very black lights on mine and i got pulled for other things (no reg plate before ppl go off on one about speeding, driving like a ***** etc) and they looked and didnt say anymore.

ATEOTD you didnt get any fines so count yourself lucky.

Think about it this way, if someone had trashed the back of your car as hey couldnt see your lights what would you be saying then....

Bit of a generalisation is it not? There are plenty of modded cars around that don't get pulled.

The easy answer is don't put tights on your lights. I've never heard of anyone being fined for lights that are too heavily tinted except where a reflector is not visible.

Yeah me being vague, they're going to target say a modded 5 door astra against say a VXR

That was one warning here is another:

Putting tights on a car is possibly the worst mod in the world remove them before I ban you for doing stupid things to your car

What makes you say that? I drove a modded 5 door for 7 years and never got pulled. More often it is down to the way the car is being driven or concern that the vehicle may not be roadworthy (which appears to be the case here)

In my eyes, they get a thumbs up for either of those reasons. Don't give the cops an excuse to pull you and you should live a cop free life.

    LMAO Mat!
