    Windscreen wipers

This most probably has been asked here before as i have heard its a common fault on mk4 astras. But anyway...

My windscreen wipers stick halfway across the screen, i was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and is it fixable?

First call is to clean and grease up the linkage and if this doesn't work the motor is at fault
The truth is always the truth even if you haven't realised it yet...

If the greasing bit doesn't work then the easiest option is to source a second hand wiper motor - I got one delivered for £35 and it's done me fine for around a year now. New one from Vauxhall is £109+VAT last time I asked...

20 minute job to fit too, easy even for a beginner.

    here is your problem mate

now i fixed mine yesterday and this was my way,i took of both wiper arms, easy to do just lift the covers and remove the 13mm nut retaining them give them a wee twist turn and it will come of.

next is remove the the plastic cover it is not screwed down just held with a rubber and plastic trim at the wind screen.

now you will see the wiper linkages, these are held in with two 8mm nuts and two 8mm bolts remove these and lift the linkage up,you will see a black plug with wires coming out disconnect this and lift the linkages away.

set the motor on the bench and on the rear you will see 5 pop rivits get a drill and 3mm bit and drill these right trough as you will need to secure it later, now use a flat blade screw driver and prise the cover open, like below.

you will notice from the picture there is a piece of copper wore away on one of the wee terimals, you will need to fix this,i got a piece of cooper from a old relay and filed it to similer size(dosnt have to be exact size) cleaned them with sand paper, then used a soldering iron to attach the two pieces of cooper like below.

now replace the cover and use 5 self tapping screws to secure it,refitting is the reverse of removing

sit back and injoy your working wipers.

hop this helps the pics i borrowed.

you could buy a second hand one but it will most likely do the same in time to come.
