    Spark plugs...

Hey all, getting a Cyl 2 missfire code in the 1.8 (51 plate) SXI on a Z18XE engine along with a lack of power at low revs and initially a O2 sensor no output.

Anyone happen to know what sparkplugs I need as I'm going to start checking the cheapest first... Its probably the coilpack or dirty valves but will get to those next.

The Vaux Trade club list is below, hopefully its one of these:

Well, interestingly, I just went and got the op-com on the case, in the car with the laptop, cleared the codes then re-started the car, drove round the block and the light was back on by the time I got back, so re-set the code again and checked some of the output from the o2 sensors, ignition timing, fuel mix, airflow, temp etc. then I revved the arse off the motor while recording the readouts.

Everything as normal so decided to drop the clutch slowly with the handbrake on and 3rd gear selected to see if I could stall it easily (implying a missfire still), nothing...

Went for another spin, engine was fully warm by now, no problems, parked up and went for my tea.

Cars cold now, just been out for another quick run and all seems well, I imagine it'll come back but its time for a service so may as well get started this weekend, plus I have a new radiator on its way to fit too.

As a side note, I have a thought about the problem. A short while ago I had a minor coolant leak which against my better judgement I 'fixed' with rad-weld. This caused constant flow (i.e. a stuck open thermostat) and thus an over cooled engine which has manifested itself via ruining my fuel economy to the tune of 4mpg. I think the overfueling is gunking things up so perhaps you should have a look at your temp gauge, does it heat up quick and stay about half way on the gauge or does it only heat up when stationary or in traffic? ALso what condition are your spark plugs in?

Temp gauge is fine, new thermostat fitted about 6mnths ago as it was stuck open. Not checked plugs but because it runs perfectly on LPG I don't think it's a plug issue otherwise it would usually show up worse on LPG than petrol.

Im going to change the Spark Plugs, if that doesnt work ill try the coil pack.
Would an EGR valve cause it?
