    MK5 Astra cranks are softer

Hearing more and more instances of MK5 Astra cranks wearing due to high torque.

For some reason Vauxhall have decided to make the bearing/bearing caps harder than the cranks.

What happens is due to the high torque these engines are starting to give the cranks are starting to fail. It sound like a thrust bearing noise that gets worse with time.

So if your building a high power MK5 Astra engine make sure you fit the Z20LET crank or go the ballencer shaft deletion method with the non turbo crank.

Here are some pictures of my one that was taken out(Wear as in the middle section of the crank).

The truth is always the truth even if you haven't realised it yet...

LET cranks are indeed stronger than all of the mk5 one, LEH included. Leave the balancers in but swap the crank if you want high torque with decent reliability.
