    Head gasket?

I noticed this morning that my heating is no longer working and also that the temperature gauge was in the red.

later on, when the engine had cooled, i found that there was no coolant left.

put some water in but but couldnt find a leak anywhere.

    the exhaust smoke was white

i called the aa as i didnt want to drive it the 40 miles home if the coolant was going to just dissappear

the AA guy did a pressure test on the coolant tank and found that the pressure was getting too high

he also said he could smell exhaust fumes in the coolant tank

he said it looks like a head gasket issue but he is allowed to say it is an internal engine issue as he cant actually check the head.

what do you guys think and how much would it cost? its a astra g 1.4

Sounds like a head gasket. What about your oil level? Take it to a garage and tell them whats wrong. They might tell you abit more.

And head gaskets are usually a +£600 job
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you think it needs improving, go ahead. My auto-bio - http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/showthread.php?t=211041

I am looking at getting a MK4 diesel. What kind of things should I be looking at when viewing/testing the car?

    im in northampton.

Im not sure it would be worth fixing really, im not sure how long i was driving it without coolant. it could have been 35 miles, it could have been 100. So there might be some damage too,
