    SRI Turbo running issue.

Hi everyone, I am new on here...
I have recently bought an 02 Astra SRI turbo that seems to have a running issue. When I bought the car the mil light and the traction control light was on the vehicle was showing a fault with the maf sensor but drove fine with it unplugged. I have now replaced the maf sensor with an item from german swedish french, its meant to be a bosch one but I don't think it is.
Now I cleared the fault out and the car drove fine for a a few days before I started intermittantly getting issues. I had no warning lights but the car felt down on power, whereas normally it boosted at 2,500rpm there was nothing it just reved like an NA car, you could still hear the turbo and the wastegate was working ok. I checked the car for split hoses etc and it appeared ok. I disconnected the battery for half an hour and retried it, it was back to normal for 24hrs, this suggested to me the the fault was electrical rather than mechanical.
    After 24hrs the fault returned.
After a long think I decided that I had only been having problems since the maf sensor change, having known the previous owner he had no issues. I have now disconnected the MAF and its running fine, obviously the spanner light and traction control light are up.
    Is the new MAF faulty?
Is it possible that there is an underlying fault with the car which seems to be disguised when the MAF is unplugged as the car is running rich.
Any thoughts as its starting to wind me up now!

    Many thanks.

    Alex

why run without it plugged in?

    thats not helping issues..

clear all codes and plug AFM back in... run car.. if the car runs lumpy or idles really bad try another AFM and let us no the results.

9 out of 10 problems come from the AFM and people just overlook this fact because its new... i went through 3 in as many weeks because i bought cheap shite.... get the real ones or a bosh one from eBay and try that... OR ask a local member to swap with you for a while?

The car did run mint with it unplugged, thats why i have unplugged it.
Without it plugged it with no faults in there it runs crap with no warning lights.
Im 99% sure that theres an underlying fault, the original fault probably wasn't the maf and if it was disguising a different fault.
Seems to be using too much fuel as well.
I ve just booked it in with vauxhall for a proper diagnostic.

i might be completely wrong BUT the point in the AFM in the first place is to sort out everything for the ecu to sort ur fuel etc is it not?

so running it without it is bad for the car surely?

The ECU can use set tables for fueling if there's a problem with the MAF, that's why it'll run better with it unplugged if yours is duff.

Replace the MAF and let use know what happens.

P0170 is a fuel trim error, it means the ECU is having to add or remove fuel, under or over it's set tables, if you've been accelerating hard with the MAF unplugged then it could cause this.
