Question PC Motherboards - Help / Advice

My pc recently died and I require a new motherboard

I want to keep new parts to a minimum so I am looking to reuse my ATX case

    my question is

There are lots of M/boards out there, I have been told that ASUS do good boards

I know I need a board with 4 Ram slots

What is clock speed and what speed is best or do I require ?
I had a look on ebay just for vague prices.... what does it mean when I can filter by socket ?

any help . advice . will be very appreciated.

All depends on the memory (RAM) you currently have and the processor (CPU) if you're reusing both. Can't recommend a board until we know what you've already got

Right O, I will use a new processor and memory

If I can reuse my existing memory it would be an advantage, they are 512mb-64Mx64 DIMM `pc2100-DDR SDRAM

for what ram costs i would budget for faster larger paired ram and then you only need a mother board with 2 ram slots which will expand your options.

What power supply do you have? How many optical drives and hard drives do you have, what interface do they use? Is your case 100% an atx case and not just a matx case?

    Power supply is as follows

    Codegen 400w ATX 2.03(p4) model 400x

I assume the clue to the case is in the model name of the power supply.

I will be running 2 hard drives and 1 dvd cd rewriter drive

I want to be able to re-use my Baracuda 7200.7 harddrives model ST3160021A

I would replace that PSU also with something half decent, you dont want to put good components in and run them off a cheap PSU. That gives no indication of the type of case, pictures would probably be the best way as it isnt too common to have model numbers on the case. Also what about the optical drives as a lot of new motherboards only come with 1 IDE connection as most things use sata now, so if all your old drives are ide and you have 2 hdd and 2 opticals, then you will need to replace things.

Just been reading this http://en.kioskea.net/contents/pc/carte-mere.php3 and my case currently has a ATX board but has several predrilled holes so I may be able to mount other boards in there.
