most ppl tend to prefer ABS plastic bumpers and kits etc as used by OE and most of the big players

GRP usually tends to be mainly the cheaper copies - although some of the big names use GRP on some models

GRP usually need a lot more fettling to fit - ie bodyshops etc whereas ABS are usually plug n play

Is the Samurai that nasty chavtastic jap thingy?

GRP is only as good as the layup, ie the number of layers, what the layers are and the eveness of the resin. Also the fit will depend on the mould/plug they've use to make it in the first place.

reading through this and thinking, a lot of people have a dislike to fiberglass kits (personally i dont have an opinion either way)

as Ffoeg says depends on the make up and the mould etc. So fiberglass can be as good as or better than ABS

for example wasnt the vx220 body made out of fiberglass??

guessing its like everything, you can always get a cheap nasty version and there is always quality versions so just because it is grp does not mean it is instantly inferior.

    I could be wrong

    Nope I think you're right

Most people's opinions of GRP are based on the shit that's floating around on eBay, or other's opinons that they've read on a forum somewhere and decided to adopt as their own.

For what most of these bargain kits go for, should you really expect it to be of any quality? I don't think so.

its not a chav looking one.
its the best one i found after looking at loads that follow the astra lines and dont look like there been stuck on and look like there made made 4 car.
so do the big boys use better fiberglass than the cheap ones?

Yeah vx220 is fibreglass, but like you say the cheap stuff gives it a bad name. For instance the Lumma GSi type bumper is GRP, but never heard any complaints about its quality. The cheap stuff though, you always see it on cars with bits fallen off and dropping to bits.
