ive learnt rather alot on this sunday.

i woke up bright and early this morning and decided it was time to do battle with the front end of my gsi .
i found a snapped manifold stud (previous owner). and it needs to be drilled and re-tapped so i though ohh well ill take it all off to save me messing about with no space. i also wanted to check if there was anything else broken which is leading to my fault codes issues.

anyway 3 hrs later and a lot of head scratching its all off. im rather proud of myself as im no-mechanic but i have a decent knowledge of hows things work etc.

so i now have the rad and a/c rad and intercooler sat in the kitchen. and also the turbo and the manifold.

i removed the standard dump valve from the side of the turbo and lone behold its been blanked off. this wud explain why it runs like crap when i removed the collins dv.

is this deffinetly the D/V blocker spacer?????

right so the main things i now need to know are :
shud i leave the blanking disk out????
shud i buy a new forge one with the spring?
and can i clean the intercooler with petrol to get the oil out????

sorry if this is a long read but i just want this to be right as its taken so long to get everything off the car. i dnt do half ass jobs

i may have some more questions in the very near future.

If your not running another dumpvalve then the blank needs to come out, however theres a springs which needs to go back in (which cant be bought seperately last I checked) so you either need to track another one down or go down a different route i.e. a.n other after market dumpvalve or something like Regals Evom diverter valve.

You can clean the intercooler out using some petrol to shift the oil.

    thankyou.

i might just buy the regal one then. it will ft the standard let turbo unit yes???

i suppose i could buy it now and then when the turbo pops i cud swap it onto the vxr unit.

are there any other types people have been buying??
ive heard about it cuming with 2 different springs (green/yellow) one is for standard boost and one is for higher boost. is that right??

    im currently running standard map.

    decisions decisions i hate it.

    cheers danny.
i think im guna go for this one
    FORGE RECIRCULATION VALVE
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true
i hope it comes with the springs which ive been reading about threw the search option. (green/yellow etc) that standrd DV really is a crap design. im glad i have taken it all apart now so i can do it all properly. new front BCS time aswell i think.

ill make sure everything is nice and clean before it goes back on. its 2 expensive to get it wrong :P

our kitchen is now full of parts its quite a site.
