    part identification on mk4 1.8 sport

    i was wandering if anyone could tell me what this part is, looked under the car after seeing oil on the floor and it seems to be coming out of here

    thats your transmission plate ( ie where u dump the gearbox fluid)

    gasket is easy to change - worthwhile getting a genuine GM one though - good escuse to change the fluid

    nice one cheers buddy where can i get the right fluid and how much am i looking at paying? ordered a new reverse switch so a good excuse to do it

    u can get the fluid from vauxhall - SAE 80 - 1ltr bottle at PN 90540998

    youll need 2 bottles

    no idea on price but id expect it to be in the region of £10 or so a bottle


    personally id whack some uprated stuff in there - maybe some Castrol synthetic or similar (used this on my old 8v and it was good stuff)
    next time i change it on the ZLET I'll be using Royal Purple Synchromax as im a big fan of their range.

    Standard GM stuff will be more than adequate though

    cheers buddy, will buy some tomorrow, anything i should watch out for or check when doing this? want to make sure everythings hunky dorey gears are a bit clunky between 1st-2nd and 2nd - 3rd

    finally got some oil, is the gasket a specialist orderpart? was going to go to vauxhall tomorrow but dont want to drive all the way there to find i have to go back, got my new reverse switch through yesterday which is an added bonus

    anyone know where i can find the oil level bolt on the gearbox of a x18xe1? need to know asap before it gets dark
