From what i can tell the transponder chip has nothing to do with central locking. It is there for the immobiliser when key is in ignition

    Correct.

The transponder does the immobiliser and the 'key pad' does the locking/setting the alarm.

The alarm and immobiliser are 2 different things.

If you get a key and chip it will need to be coded to your car.

I think they all have different codes and the key and trasponder are coded to the cars ecu.

I just bought a keyfob and transpoder off ebay and coded it to my car (You will need Tech2 or OP_COM).

whats wrong with your current key? if it just needs re syncing, all you do it put the key in the ignition turn till the dash lights come on and press the lock/unlock button then the doors should lock and unlock and it should be programed again

Do you know if a second hand keyfob can be reprogramed?
And do you need a new immobilser chip or can a secondhand one be reprogramed?
