Morning walk and a few animals (Loads of pics)

Went for a walk this morning as it was a nice fresh morning.

The forest/park/lake/field area near my house is full of animals so went armed with my camera to see what I could capture.

Started off with a few of the lake as it looked cool with the steam coming from it.

Then I noticed a young deer at the edge of the lake/field boundary just sitting down so crept over and watched for about an hour of him watching me and eating. After a while he didn't take much notice of me. He just got up and walked off in the end.

Carried on my walk round the lake and watched a few birds fluttering about. Also noticed a few birds tapping the branches of trees (No idea why) like woodpeckers. Always ducks on the lake and there also seemed to be loads of squirrels running about in the trees.

Back to where I started where the deer was and decided to go over the stile and across the field. About halfway across I noticed the young deer again just as he noticed me and started to walk away.

I thought that was it and started to walk just as its mum appeared from behind the bush about 20 foot away. I crouched down and it just looked at me. Then started making grunting noises and was running/springing in the air across in front of me gong left and stopped and looked again then did the same to the right and headed off towards the young one. Never seen this before and made my day .

Then on the way out of the field next to a small stream I noticed this hole but no edea what made it. I though maybe a water vole but don't know.

    I was down wind lol.

We see them quite often if we are careful with the wind direction but don't normally get to watch for so long.

The best bit was the grunting. Heard it on the TV but never for real. Sounded so deep and powerful.

wow, fantastic pics. BTW the birds tapping on the branches is a general alarm response to let others know of the presence of a possible danger (ie to say they'd spotted you) Other animals often take note of this and go into hiding when they hear it too.

The deer photos are amazing, I loved the action shots. You could consider submitting them to the National Geographic photo of the day.
