engine whine when first start up or when revved

    hi all...

right... sometimes not all times... when i start my car there seams to be a whine.... when you rev the car it goes faster in sequence with the revs... or if the whine isn't present on start up if you rev the car then it starts whining

    its a 1.8 astra coupe se2

    any help would be apreciated

    thanks

Check your belt, if it's worn badly, cracked or there are chucks missing from it if so you will need a new one If changing that doesn't work, then you might need a new alternator. A good way to check the alternator is to turn the car on and pop the bonnet. the pull the positive off the battery. If the car shuts off, your alternator needs replacing.
and i think the noise your are hearing is the bearings inside the alternator
