    Hello there, New member

    Hi Guys,

Well, I guess I am new here
    I am Olaf, 32 from Inverness ( Scotland )
I am father of 2 kids, and I live with my fiance Jocelijne..

I am dutch from origin, but am living in Scotland for over a year now..

    I LOVE cars...
Had a couple of Fords back in Holland, and I had a Mondeo here in Inverness.
But unfortunately that did not survive a trip to Holland... once arrived at home, after 2000 miles in one week, I switched it off.. later that night I wanted to put it in the garage, and it was dead...

Because of that we were searching for a cheap car to get us from A to B, and we bought this Astra MK3 1.7D

We had no idea what it was, we bought it for 250,-
But it turned out to be a very well maintained car, and had all receipts of repairs and such.. even all the MOT papers since it was born....

It had MOT and passed without any problems...

So now it is time to give it some TLC and a bit personalisation.

You'll see me around with pictures, and/or questions..
This is the first Vauxhall for me, so it is all new..

Here are some pictures... just after I bought it..
I will take care of the rusty bits, as I was a spray painter for 7 years back in Holland, I will manage that...

welcome to AOC from another mk3 owner. What you have there is a pre facelift (or phase 1) M reg (I have 2 post face lift or phase 2 M reg mk3' astras) Are there any bits you need for your diesel as mine is finally dead and probably going to the scrapyard soon, my boyfriend is outside as I type stripping off a couple of good bits for my good mk3 (a 2 litre petrol one) but if there's any things you need let me know and we may be able to get them off for you?

Just beware (we learned this the hard way) do not attempt to change the fuel filter on the diesel yourself unless you are a diesel expert already, or you may end up inadvertently killing it Matt and I have decided to stick with petrols, at least we know where we are with them!

Where in Holland are you from originally? we have many friends in the Netherlands and visit there regularly, my dad used to work for a Dutch company too.

I hope you enjoy the club.

    Kirsty and Matt.

Welcome to AOC. hope you enjoy your stay on here.
Thats not a bad looking phase 1 Astra to be fair, it also looks like it is better than the base model, almost like a sport.
firstly what engine is in it? if its the Isuzu engine then you have got yourself a goodun as those engines are pretty much bullet proof

that is an Isuzu turbo diesel. the NA diesel looks the same, except it says Diesel on the rocker cover (where it says Turbo on mine)

And sorry to hijack, Kirsty, how did you kill your diesel by changing the fuel filter?
Probably the ONLY Astra Mk3 sitting on Corsa D SXI rims!
And Now a Diesel on Discs all round!

Well Matt does the servicing on our cars, he's serviced his competition car for years, but never a diesel. He did the oil/fuel/cabin filters and service stuff on my petrol astra 100% fine, then went on to do his diesel. He followed his diesel haynes manual to the letter, unfortunately the manual (we later found out from a diesel expert) omitted a vital step in the instructions, which meant that there was an airlock in the system, which killed the fuel pump, which turns out to cost hundreds to fix (more than the car is worth) and it is not an item you can just get 2nd hand from a scrapyard - it must be recoded on the car you take it off to the ecu of the new car it's going onto, either way, new or used costs a fortune.

Also, due to some bad advice (which was "keep trying to start it until it sucks the diesel through and gets rid of the airlock itself" and "tow it for ages until it starts") finished it off - apparently that killed the starter motor and finished off the fuel pump completely. Anyway, as it wasn't the "good" astra, it was a 140,000 mile cheap lugger we got for about £400, it wasn't economically viable to repair unfortunately.

Plus points is that it's a high spec GLS, which means that my astra (merit shell - low spec) is getting a nice black interior fitted, along with a nice perfect shiny new bonnet which the diesel got from a 40,000 mile astra we found in the scrapyard plus any other goodies it's possible to swap over

    Kirsty
