    sanding before laquer

i have just sprayed my corner spats and in a few hours will be adding the laquer. Now my question is do i need to sand the paint down with some 1200 wet and dry or do i do it once i have laquered?

    cheers

when doing my grille & such, i never bothered sanding after the paint. It looked pretty smooth & even anyway, but besides that, when i did have to sand as i ballsed up at 1st, it all went faded grey & i imagines just lacquering over it would just not sort that out, so one reason i didn't bother.

9 months on, it's still fine.

Others may disagree though. Plus i'm tal;king about a totally different part & 1 which isn't [i]that[/]i] important.

all depends how well the paint finish is before the lacquer really.

as stated, go for 1500 W&D as its a less course paper, so less risk of scratching.

The reason you should sand down with wet and dry has nothing to do with the smoothness, it's to get the metalic colour right. Most (not all) metalic paints need to be rubbed down a bit to give a deep finish under the laquer.
