My mate has got a 450bhp evo 8 and as always every 4000 miles it was off down to an un-nammed garage in an un-named southern town (108 miles away from chester-le-street) for its service. This one was the main service so included the usual plugs, filters, fluids and a diff oil change as well as a timing belt swap.
He picked the car up a considerable amount of £££ worse off and accelerated up the sliproad onto a motorway 20 miles away from the garage and his timing belt jumped some teeth, locked and snapped. The result; 16 bent valves, shattered piston crowns, warped rods and a nackered crank
The garage offered him a full rebuild for free which he turned down (incase of hidden damage to the block itself) and instead got them to source him a new engine and re-spec it to the same as his current engine so all is well
The best bit of the story is the courtesy car. Initially they cave him a 1986 160bhp honda crx. After 50 miles of the return journey he was so sick he went back and demmanded a faster and non shit car . He eventually managed to get the demo evo 6 out of them (which boasts an impressive 680bhp) and wants them to take as long as possible with his car so he can keep having fun with the 6. SO if anyone localish to me sees a evo 6 doing ballistic MPH everywhere you know who it is
The worst bit was after a few phone calls he found out it was a apprentice mechanich who had worked on his car and done the balls up as the proper specialist couldnt be arsed. I know now why I service the car myself or always stay with it when work is being done...
