    Tax Credit overpayment.

    So...

..about 2 years ago i was claiming working/childs tax credit and i stopped claiming them roughly 14months ago.

So, as you do you go about things not worrying about any debt's outstanding and 14 months later i get a letter stating i owe 275.

This is rediculous, i can still pay it off as i have a job but what if i didnt have a job? what if i went into full time study?

Is there anything i can do or shall i just go ahead and start to pay it off?

I received one in February this year saying I was overpaid £5.2k.

Started paying it up (even though I never claimed a penny or saw a penny of it!) at £101/month but stopped in June - figured why the hell should I?

They should deduct the sum owed from the wages of the useless civil servant that processed your claim and overpaid you, it may encourage them to do their jobs properly and avoid these situation in the first place.
