    New engine or repair??

    Big ends gone on my car 03 gsi Z20 LET its not leaking oil or that and there was oil in the car,,, am i better to repair or drop an engine in, If theres a mechanic near me in central Scotland i could do with some help/advice please.

    time and money wise, i would opt for engine for quick turn round, change over in a weekend easy!

    Looks like Supersaloon has now sold the engine Dan. Its all easy when you know how! I need a local mechanic as its not a job i would attempt to do. Im in no rush for the car so might look into cost of repair, having said that its done 84k

    look for just block mate if its just big ends. ebay or on here....

    Top ends rattling to Dan, Im no mechanic but have been told its the big ends but god knows what else could be wrong.

    top ends would be hydrolic lifters or cam, bottom end would be big or little ens, crank etc....

    if you have the car revved to 2-2.5k does it sound as though theres a marble in there??

    Why did it happen I wonder? Poor oil? Oil pump fail?

    I haven't done the job, but it seems easy enough on a lift to remove the sump and get to the big ends. Might be able to replace the shells fairly easily, not sure?

    It does get louder at higher revs Dan an yes its like a marble in there, why it happened is beyond me i drove it home parked it up and then started it next day and it was rattlin
