    astra coupe engine

    i have a 1.8 16v coupe, i know their is 2 types of engines, not sure how to tell tho! mine has a cat in manifold and has a cartrige style oil filter with a paper inner!


    am trying to take the middle box out but i am struggling to find one, as am not really sure what i should be looking for any help i would be greatful

    Yours is the Z18XE engine. Probably dates your car to early 2001 or later? I believe that the X18XE has a screw on canister filter on the front of the block and a cat somewhere under the sump. My SRi is March 01 and has the same engine as yours. What about taking the middle box out altogether and fitting a plain piece of pipe? I have heard the middle box is very restrictive.

    i have just checked in total vauxhall and the 1.8 coupe has the x18xe1 engine

    Yours will be the X18Xe1 as it has the cartridge oil filter.

    Do you mean the middle exhaust section? Non Turbo Coupes all use the same middle and back box, but early Coupes have a flange fitment between the middle and back section, later ones, a sleeve.

    If you cant see the cat from the engine bay and have a cable to your throttlebody its a X18XE1.

    If not its the Z18 engine
