    Renault Megane MK2

I was going to write about this car a few months ago, but i really do believe i need to warn people about this car, seeing its now becoming a cheap option for many families.

I'll keep it short, but before you buy one please make sure you have ask if the following was changed if its a 02 - 06 model.

    Dephaser Pulley - £400 repair
Passenger door seal - done under warranty
    Suspension top mounts - £300
Ball joints - £50 each fitted
    Window regulator rear - £240
    Coils replaced twice - £60
Track rod ends - await quote
Door handle caps crack under cold conditions

This is all just in the last year and its only an 04 plate. The cars only done 2000 miles in 2009. The dephaser and top mounts are common faults that renault wont admit too. Any Megane forum i go to are just a waste of time cause if theirs isnt broke they dont bother replying.

If anyone else has a megane with similar issues then type away. I just wanted to alert anyone that was thinking of buying one.

    Thanks for listening,

    Paul

I know exactly where you are coming from here.

I owned a Megane II from January to November 08, then traded it in for the Astra - would never look back now at all.

Costs spent in the 9-10 months of ownership:

    Purchased for £4,000
Full Service, 2 new tyres, 2 coil packs - £460
    Cam Belt Kit + fitting - £285
    Oil pressure sensor/switch + fitting £20
High level brake light + fitting £30
Spare new key card programmed and emergency key cut - £70
    2 more coil packs £70

Traded in for £2,000 = 1 huge loss!

Several AA callouts, think managed to rack up about 6-7 callouts in 6 months!
Astra sold ... replaced with a Skoda ... soon to be replaced with another Vauxhall

Jezzo thats just as bad as me, but i have an astra as my own car now, and my wife drives the megane. I love my astra to bits and drives like a go-kart compared to the very difficult megane.

She wants to trade it on also for an astra lol
