    Exclamation Antifreeze / Coolant Help!!!

    Hi there.

Im new to the forums. Ive got an S Reg 1.4 Astra X14XE engine i believe.
Could some one please tell me how much antifreeze i need in the system as if i was completely drained and renewed?

ie. Whats the capacity of the cooling system? ive read somewhere a 1.6 is around 5.9 litres capacity so there for 3 litres of antifreeze for a 50/50 mix would do, but i just cant seem to find seaching all over the net anything on the 1.4 capacity specifications.

if someone could tell me how much antifreeze would be needed that would be great thanks.

Mate, the easiest way to do this, without having to work out the actual capacity of the tank is to just get a container, half n half of antifreeze and water chuck that in, then repeat process untill the tank is at the required level. If there's any left over, keep it in a bottle to top up or disgard it.

I thought it was 3 or so litres myself but may be wrong. Can check my Haynes easily enough later.

Cheers guys for your help. Much appreciated

So it soundslike it is a roughly 6 litre capacity then.
is a 50/50 mix reallly needed as that protects down to -33
where as a 30/70 protects down to -15 to -18

inve never known it to drop below a few degrees below 0 so a 30/70 mix would surely be more than adiquate?

also, whats the easiest way to drain the system?

Thank you all for your help.

'also, whats the easiest way to drain the system?'

lol sorry. had a dumb blonde moment there lol

easiest way would be to use drain plug bottom left drivers side of radiator i guess or release bottom hose from radiator.

is it worth sticking a hose down the reservoir while the plug / bottom hose is disconnected to give it a flush?

Coolant also acts as a lubricant for the waterpump so no harm having a 50/50 mix, especially given that with AOC membership, coolant is about £2.60 a litre on trade club
