    Engine query

Just taken my 1.6 8v engine apart yesterday, head off etc and found that #4 cylinder (which i been having probs with) has a nice "burnt" colour down one side, and in the cylinder itself its a different colour to the rest of it... what could cause this? as far as i can see, rings dont look terrible though they are shiney which is not how they should be i believe? also all cylinders have light scoring in them so why would this be? would it be where the piston rings meet and the corners/edges are catching or what? any advice or info would be great! cheers

sounds like number 4 piston is shot and its starving the other 3 of oil.

probable cause is plug no4 is shagged and not sparking properly, did the car run ok???

also what was the "different colour"? if its a brownish colour ur head gaskets away mate.

it was quite scorched on the top of the cylinder and had a sort of browny black scorch down one side, rings are rammed i think, just shining up rather than sealing, after we got the rest of the pistons out, they all are starting to have the same problem. The can ran but it started to progressively "lose power" and feel even more sluggish than a 1.6 8v does lol and the engine became alot more juddery which i assume was cause the oil was so thin due to petrol and not REALLY lubricating at all lol...
