    my lumpy running 1.8 16v

    Hi all,
I posted last week regarding the poor running off my 1.8 16v and it was sugested i blank off the egr valve which i have done but left valve connected, it has improved slightly but car is still very lumpy on tickover and revs are very slow to drop. when i bought the car the guy said it ran lumpy after he had the cam belt done, is it possible the timing is out? and is there any way i can check the timing? and one last question, got a friend who works at the post office servicing their fleet and he has access to a diagnostic machine but said he tried it on his wifes vauxhall and it was not compatable, is there a software program needed or something,
    many thanks,
    cowboy

out of curiosity whats the year? you dont need a diagnostic machine, you can do the paperclip test if its 98-00 or the pedal test 01+, if you look up the how to it will show you what to do. to be honestit may be a clogged up throttle body, maf sensor or lambda sensor. ive got the 1.8 sport and the throttle body was filthy, so cleaned it up and it ran like a dream!
