The original 60gb models have had a few issues. (nowhere near as many as xbox)
Ive got a 40gb model but with a 320gb hdd in it.
    and
    A new slim 120gb model.
The new one is a big improvement if space is an issue.

FI you can pick up a bargain get one of the bigger versions, if not spend £230 on a new one.

I have had my 60gb since release day, not had one problem with it.

It now has 120gb HDD from an old laptop.

I wouldnt worry about the size of the HDD as you can change it your self inless than 5mins TBH. (well that is the orginal PS3's, no idea about the slimline)

ive got an orginal 40gb one but maxed the HDD within a few months so now have a 320gb in it aswell.

had no problems with mine what so ever. The fan does come on a fair bit to keep it cool, but that could be due to it being cased in a stand.

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring

I would buy a new one, they are only £250 for the slim. Buying 2nd hand can be risky with electronic devices these days as they are not as reliable as they used to be (due to them using lead free solder) I know the PS3 does not have that many faults with them compared to the Xbox 360, but there are still some out there and sony are not admitting to it like Microsoft are.

I traded my Xbox 360 in for 2nd hand PS3 about a year ago

The PS3 had dodgy hard drive(which I never knew about, got it from game an I'm assuming that's why who ever owned it traded it in) But lucky enough I had about 5/6 spare hard drives knocking around(as you do when your an I.T man lol)

Whacked one in and wa la issues resolved

Luck was on my side that day.

40Gb - 2 USB ports, third party OS install, silver trim.
60Gb - 4 USB ports, third party OS install, PS2 backward compatibility, SACD playback, memory card readers, chrome trim.
80Gb - 2 USB ports, third party OS install, silver trim.
120Gb (Slim) - 2 USB ports, Bravia sync XMB control, smaller case,.
160Gb - 2 USB ports, third party OS install, silver trim.

(IIRC others will have the Bravia sync XMB control once updated to the latest firmware).

The best PS3 available is the original 60Gb version.
