help please I need a new engine.

Hi all I am new to this site. I have recently bought an stra mk4 x reg 1.4 16v but i'v now blown the engine.

Can anybody advise me about the best engine that I could fit easily? one from the sri or something as I have no technical knowledge of these things, but would like some more power.

    cheers in advance Iain.

how did you blow the engine?
    what mileage was it on?
    had the cambely been changed?

Best bet would be to swap like for like, but another 1.4 in it

Or buy a calibra 2.08v or 16v for about 500 quid, and get all the parts transferred over. :P

1.4 16v will be by far the easiest swap as its the same so no loom, gearbox or drive shafts need changed. Any other mk4 engine will fit reasonably easily - all the mounts will align but if you go for a bigger engine than the 1.4 or 1.6 the box will need changed and so will the drive shafts. Your life will be a lot easier too if you go with a cable throttle engine so you dont have to change your throttle setup to a fly by wire system.

Depending on how keen you feel c20xe/let, 2.0 8v, v6 engines etc will all fit but bear in mind the 8v 2.0 has less power than the x20xev which would be an easy fit so that route is pretty much completley pointless, the redtop and redtop turbo would both go in with a bit of tinkering with the upper engine mount and some wiring loom alterations but most are getting on for 20 years old and well over 100k miles. V6s are a pain in the arse to fit, lazy, less power than the 2.0 turbos and a nightmare to work on so again its do-able but up to you to decide if its worth it or not
It would definitely go better with an engine in it

hmm starting to get a bit complicated there. Best bet is the straight swap I think and jus work on getting more power from what i've got.
