    Unsure of what to do!

    Basically, i've got a W (2000) reg astra.

It's done 126k but has full service history and has never really given me problems. I've had new CV's done, new clutch, new alternator and a new battery within the last 2 months (due to it's age and mileage i expected these things would need to be done soon). I also need the track rod ends done now too.

Regardless of this, the car runs fine engine wise and mechanically - BUT it's faded red and I don't have the money for a re-spray (unless somebody knows where i could get one do for cheap?)

I want to do some bits to the car, like a 4 stud to 5 stud conversion, but im not sure whether it's worth it due to the mileage etc.

Would I be better off selling the car (although i wouldnt get much for it i dont think?), using what I get to buy another astra with lower mileage and then working on that, or spending time and money on this one... bearing in mind the mileage of it?

    What would you do?

You may be able to restore the paint work using certain polishes etc? 5 stud conversion would be cool! You say it runs fine etc so i wouldn't worry about the mileage buddy

I've tried a few polishes and t-cut which work well, until the weather changes!

Well i say it runs fine, but i've currently got my ABS light on constantly and also the engine management light on constantly (which flashed the other night for about 30 mins).

Not sure what it could be and taking it to vauxhalls to get the codes diagnosed will cost a bit more than what i've got right now!

Its the paint oxidising because your red was never given a clearcoat finish. The only thing you can do is have it machine polished (can be done by hand but your arm will be useless for a week afterwards ). By machine polishing it, you'll remove a few microns of the oxidised paint getting down to fresh paint again and bringing back that vibrance. The problem is it will happen again so what I'd recommend is using a good wax with UV prohibitors such as the bilt & hammer range. They act as a sort of sun tan lotion for the car and will stop it fading so quickly. IE its not a perfect solution and will fade but it won't fade as quickly.

I know somebody with a machine polisher too so i may see how much it'll cost if he does it.

I'll also look into the Bilt and Hammer range - seem's pretty decent with the claying stuff etc.

Oh and that link doesnt work
